The Great Debate: To Circumcise or Not?

Do you want to mutilate (circumcise) your son or leave him unsanitized (not circumcise)? My, those each sound so harsh!

If you have a son or are having one, I am sure that this question has crossed your mind. For us, it was almost a non-issue as we both decided that we wanted Cameron to be circumcised.

However, we have been asked a lot and given a lot of opinions (much like everything else with pregnancy and children)!

We have one friend who decided not to circumcise their son.

We have one friend who wanted to, but the procedure couldn’t be done because his penis was too big at birth (I’m sure Chad will be high-fiving himself if this happens to us), so it has to be done at the age of 1.

Did you know that 2/3 of males in the world are uncircumcised?

Here are some fun facts for your pleasure:

Some say that leaving your son uncircumcised increases their sexual pleasure - I’m pretty sure that neither side of the fence is complaining!

There are some new studies linking having a circumcision to a decrease in obtaining the HIV infection - I say don’t have unprotected sex with someone who has HIV, whether you’re circumcised or not!

What does Dad think? Maybe he wants his son to have a similar penis…maybe he wants his son to have the opposite. Chad is circumcised (Hi, Honey! I just told the entire world about your penis!) and wants the same for Cameron..

Some parents worry that their child will be made fun of in the locker room for being different…I think there are a lot more things to worry about than whether or not your son has foreskin on his penis. Manners? Personality? Academics? Athleticism? Clothes? I could go on…If you’re cool, your child will be cool (so Cam is pretty much screwed in that regard…sorry, buddy!) and nobody will care what’s down below (in most cases).

Many religions and cultures have very strict beliefs about circumcision. What’s yours? That would obviously be the biggest deciding factor, I would think! Christianity pretty much has a neutral stance on this issue…I guess they’ve decided to spend their time telling people who they can and can’t marry! ANYWAYS

There are tons of medical concerns both for and against circumcision…none of them are severe (or researched) enough to steer one way or the other (in my opinion) and it’s really just a decision of what you’re comfortable doing.

The deciding factor for us is that Chad wants him to be circumcised and I have no reason not to, so there you have it…Cam man will be foreskin-less.
